The open-world Tchia adventure game is apparently no longer planned for release on Steam or Stadias.
The open-world adventure game Tchia for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC will be released in 2022 via the Epic Games Store, developer Awaceb has announced. Tchia was first announced at The Game Awards 2020 preview, at which time it was said to be coming to PC via Steam and Stadia. Those versions are no longer mentioned in today’s announcement… Something must have happened along the way.
If you don’t know it already, here’s a review of the game, (via its Steam page in a weird way):
Possessing Mechanic: Tchia’s special ability allows you to assume the skin of any animal or object you can find. Use their unique gameplay and abilities to travel, solve puzzles and uncover secrets. Fly as a bird, explore the ocean as a fish or dig for treasure as a dog. Choose from over 30 playable animals and hundreds of objects.
Explore and traverse: Traverse the vast archipelago by leaping or gliding, and use the Tricks system for cool stunts and dives. Free climbing mechanics allow you to climb anywhere in the world without limit. Sail your customizable boat on turquoise lagoons and dive around coral reefs and shipwrecks.
Ukulele: Whether you’re jamming alone or playing along with NPCs, your fully playable ukulele will be your faithful companion throughout the game. Use it at key moments in the story during the rhythm sections, or play unlockable tunes anywhere in the open world to trigger special events, so that the music can attract animals to you, for example, or trigger rain…
History and music: Lead Tchia on a heart-pounding adventure and meet a diverse cast of characters inspired by New Caledonian cultures. Fully animated scenes in traditional languages punctuate your journey, while original orchestral music infused with local sounds creates a unique and immersive world around you.
Customization and Items: Customize Tchia’s clothing and boat with hundreds of cosmetic items ranging from traditional looks to the most extravagant options. Along the way, you’ll also find useful and fun items like a flashlight, slingshot, compass, camera…
New Caledonia: The world of Tchia is inspired by New Caledonia, a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean, not to mention home to the co-founders of Awaceb. Inspired by the rich and varied local landscapes, cultures, music, languages, folklore and traditions, the creators have used this to create a fictional world and tell a universal story that anyone can understand and enjoy. The characters are voiced by local talent in traditional languages, but the game has also been subtitled in a number of languages, including English, French, Russian, Chinese and German.
The game also has its own website, which you can visit here.
