It makes some sense, though: the Japanese studio is not responsible for funding the Bayonetta 3 game, as one console manufacturer is backing it (which was also the case with Bayonetta 2).
In January, Hideki Kamiya (Viewtiful Joe, Okami, The Wonderful 101…) said that the game should be showcased to the public this year, and we discussed the subject. The creator of Bayonetta 3 now talked with VGC about why there is still a severe lack of news surrounding Cereza (that’s the real name of Bayonetta, and the used term also makes sense: since a teaser trailer in 2017, we have seen nothing of the game).
“It was more of a not definitely ‘something will come out this year’, but if there is a year, then something should happen, right? If you remember last time, I said that even though everyone was asking about Bayonetta 3, maybe you should tell everyone to forget about it for a while. I kind of need to keep to that stance for now because ultimately, it’s not our decision what to say and when to say it.
As much as everyone is clamouring to see Bayonetta 3, we are waiting to release it too. Of course, everyone who is working on the project is very proud of what we’re doing and wants everyone to see what we’re doing. As much as fans are waiting for it, we are waiting for the day to show it. We want everyone to cheer us on as we run to the final stretch. We want to show it too!” Kamiya said.
That explains it: Nintendo is making the calls, as Bayonetta 3 will be a Nintendo Switch-exclusive title. But the situation regarding it is pretty bad for us at the moment.
