Previously we reported that the Nintendo Switch is getting a price cut, and the question remained whether the US territories get a similar price cut, which we just got an answer today!
We reported on Nintendo of Europe providing a price cut to the base Switch units, and this was announced a couple of days ago, you can read about that news here!
However at that point we did not know whether the USA will get a similar price cut. Well today Nintedo of America has sadly confirmed that they will not be providing a price cut, as the two sections are pretty independent it seems.
Nintendo of America has made the following comments:
“The trade price adjustment is for the European region only,” a spokesperson said. “There are no plans to change the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for any Nintendo Switch model in the U.S.”
So there you have it, maybe a bit later Nintendo of America will follow suit, but currently there are not plans to change the price in the USA.
It is a bit interesting to see how independent the two locations are, unlike Sony or Microsoft where if there is a price cut, usually they try to align it globally. It is quite surprising how Nintendo has given such autonmy to its divisions in terms of pricing.
