It made the actors cry Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script

Together they read the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script with Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff, and by the end, they were both in tears. Now for the Oscar-winning acting challenge!

Watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is likely to be an emotional experience for Marvel fans, at least it was for the start of the franchise, Karen Gillan. After playing Nebula in the previous Guardians films, Gillan will reprise the role in the third (and possibly final) instalment of the James Gunn-directed Guardians series. Filming is expected to start in November.

Ahead of the start of principal photography, Karen Gillan told Yahoo about reading the script in an interview. The actress revealed that she had read the script simultaneously as Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis, which was difficult for both of them. According to Gillan, they were utterly bored by the time they both got to the last page. Still, she’s happy to delve deeper into her character for one more episode.

“We read it together in the same room, and then we looked at each other, and we were in tears… we were so emotional. You learn more about the existing characters and on a deeper level. I’m very excited to discover Nebula, after Thanos”.

Gillan apparently couldn’t say exactly what part of the script made her shed a tear, but fans might want to take some tissues with them when they watch Guardians of the Galaxy Part 3 in 2023. James Gunn, for his part, teased that at least one main character will die in the sequel, and fans are already worried about which character(s) it might be. Gunn also talked about the film being an “emotional” experience.

“We wrote the script for Guardians 3 a long time ago,” Gunn told EW, teasing that it was as emotional for him to write as it was for Gillan to read it. “I’ve played with it with slight changes over the years, but it’s stayed the same since three years ago. It’s quite difficult. It’s a more difficult story, an emotional process to go through”.

Fortunately, Gunn is making sure fans have fun with the characters in the meantime. They’ll all appear in a canonical holiday special called The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special before releasing their third film. Speaking about the project, Gunn said, “It’s going to be a blast. I wrote it a few months ago, and I’m very, very pleased with it. I’m shooting it at the same time as Guardians 3. So we’ll be using the same sets. I think it’s going to be an excellent holiday special.”

As of now, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to hit theatres on May 5, 2023. The sequel, written and directed by Gunn, stars Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Nebula, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Vin Diesel as Groot. The Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special will first come to Disney+ in 2022, presumably just in time for the holiday season. The production’s cast will be seen in the upcoming Marvel sequel Thor: Love and Thunder on May 6, 2022.
