MOVIE NEWS – As another Marvel movie hits theatres today, Venom: There Will Be Killing continues its run with another milestone.
The second movie of the symbiote from Sony Pictures crosses the $400 million barriers worldwide. Specifically, the distribution by areas stands at $191.6 million in the United States and another $212.5 million in the rest of the countries.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage has become the second-highest October release ever, sitting behind Joker, which was released before the pandemic, making the achievement even more impressive. In its fourth week, the Symbiote film achieves very similar figures to those of the first instalment. In fact, if the latter in its fourth week has earned 191.6 million, the first film in its fourth weekend in the United States reached 190.8 million, and this is taking into account that it coincided with the weekend before Halloween. The 2018 film grossed a total of $856 million worldwide, of which $213.51 million was in the United States.
Tom Hardy’s return as Eddie Brock made for an impressive opening with $90.1 million. It also had the most robust opening in Russia since theatres closed and was Sony’s best performance there. With $31.4 million, it is among the top ten highest-grossing films in that market (eighth position to be exact). In addition, there is still no official word on its release in China, where the previous film earned an impressive $269 million. Australia and Japan will see the movie open on November 25th and January 3rd, respectively. In short, Venom is set to cause more carnage for a while yet.
Despite all this good data, Sony Pictures has not officially announced a third Venom movie, which we know is planned. However, the announcement could come anytime, especially since Sony has reserved some dates in the release schedule for the next few years.
