Bethesda Shelved The Elder Scrolls 6 To Prioritise Starfield [VIDEO]

Todd Howard admits that many titles got in the way of the development of The Elder Scrolls 6

Bethesda has carved out an important niche for itself in the gaming industry with its work on all sorts of titles. With Skyrim, it has only increased public expectations and curiosity around its proposition. However, for a long time, the buzz around Bethesda has danced between Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, with the space adventure being the developer’s next release.

But why the silence on The Elder Scrolls 6? Todd Howard says that, after finishing development on Skyrim, several games got in the way of The Elder Scrolls 6. But that’s not the end of it, as Bethesda had to decide what to focus its efforts on Starfield or the successor to Skyrim. A choice led to the space game landing on 11 November, while the fantasy title has barely made any progress in its development.

“We felt like we had to do something like Starfield…We wanted to do something different for a long time and play in a new universe, so if we didn’t do it then (I’m going back in time, we started after Fallout 4 in 2015), then when? It felt like, if we didn’t do it then, the ‘when’ might have been ‘never’,” Howard explains.

Ever since Skyrim reached the pinnacle of success ten years ago, the community has been clamouring to continue the franchise. However, Bethesda prioritised the development of Starfield and has therefore warned that we won’t be hearing about The Elder Scrolls 6 for a long time. So, with the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, Bethesda wants us to brighten up our time by returning to one of the most popular RPGs of the last decade.

But Starfield is set to land on PC and Xbox Series for those who also enjoy space adventures in just over a year’s time. As such, it has already detailed some aspects of its world, such as the game’s major factions, and promises more than 150,000 lines of dialogue, a figure double that seen in Skyrim.
