MOVIE NEWS – The bet was on how many times he would have to film a scene for the movie Belfast. The 11-year-old lead actor, Jude Hill, guessed two, Judi Dench, who plays his grandmother, guessed three, and the little boy won, Newsweek reports. He got two pounds, which he says he’ll keep forever, as it was given to him by one of the world’s greatest actresses.
Jude Hill is otherwise touted as an Oscar contender, so fantastic is his portrayal of teenage Kenneth Branagh in the director-actor’s largely autobiographical inspired film. The nostalgic, wryly funny story takes us to the Northern Irish capital of the 1960s, where the conflict between Catholic and Protestant residents is escalating, and the young boy’s family decides to leave.
With the events of the 1960s, The Troubles, or quasi-civil war, taking place long before the main character was born, Hill has watched a lot of documentaries and films about it on YouTube with his family, so he can get into the somewhat menacing atmosphere of the era.
The film also stars Jamie Dornan, Caitriona Balfe and Ciaran Hinds.
