CD Projekt is not resting: major patches are expected for Cyberpunk 2077, but there are no plans to add the game to Microsoft’s console subscription service for the time being.
It would be hard to deny that Cyberpunk 2077 hasn’t exactly lived up to the expectations of its audience in the days following its release. Still, CD Projekt RED has no intention of giving up on its latest creation, as the latest news about the game’s development in 2022 reveals. While we already knew that Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 would be coming to next-generation consoles, the developers claim that everything is running smoothly and that they are preparing a major update for the futuristic title.
Cyberpunk 2077 – Big update in Q1 2022
CD Projekt has released a report looking back at the decisions made in the third quarter of 2021 while also reiterating some of the news from the past few months:
“We are hard at work on the next–gen version of Cyberpunk, scheduled for release in the first
quarter of 2022, alongside another major update for all platforms,” the document reads.
There is no exact date as to when Cyberpunk 2077 will be available for Xbox Series and PS5, but CD Projekt takes the opportunity to continue the statement by explaining the reasons for the drop in net profit at the company: ‘The year-on-year decrease in net profit is mainly due to the expenses related to the Cyberpunk update and exploratory work on new projects in the early stages of development’.
Xbox Game Pass: “Too early for Cyberpunk”
After initially dismissing the idea outright, the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED, has no plans to add the title to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass platform until more time has passed. The company feels that while this subscription service has been considered, it would be better to wait.
The studio’s statement was made during a Q&A with investors, according to VGC.
“We always consider any business opportunity, but this kind of subscription model is good at a certain moment of the lifecycle of the product, so not too early,” said Adam Kicinski, president of CD Projekt RED.
“Witcher 3 was for some time in a subscription,” Kicinski continued. “But we have to weigh the benefit and cost each time, so we have to compare it to sales, so it’s a decision based on data.”
“It’s way too early for Cyberpunk,” concluded the president of CD Projekt RED. The game will be a year old in the days since its release, and the studio has made it clear that Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have to be patient. How long will CD Projekt Red wait? It has not been clear: it could be just a few weeks, but it could be months or even years.
CD Projekt RED recently stated in an interview that the studio will maintain its independence and will not be offered for sale.
