As we approach the end of 2021, it’s time to rank the best games of the year, and Cyberpunk 2077 conquers the land of the rising sun
Fans recently discovered the winning games at The Game Awards 2021, where It Takes Two won Game of the Year, but there is no shortage of alternative verdicts. Directly from Japan, for example, comes IGN Japan’s quirky Top 10 Best Games of 2021. The Japanese newspaper shared a decidedly counter-trendy verdict with the latter, at the top of which Cyberpunk 2077 was placed.
After the turbulent debut that characterised CD Projekt RED’s ambitious production, the Rising Sun newspaper decided to reward the work done by the Polish game developer in shaping Night City. Placed at the top of IGN Japan’s 2021 ranking, Cyberpunk 2077 beats Metroid Dread and It Takes Two, which are in second and third place, respectively. The full ranking can be found below:
- Cyberpunk 2077 (PC Version)
- Metroid Dread
- It Takes Two
- Monster Hunter Rise
- Forza Horizon 5
- Inscryption
- Deathloop
- Hades
- Resident Evil Village
- Tales of Arise
Looking back over the last twelve months in the world of video games, the Japanese newspaper has awarded indie productions, such as Inscryption, as well as big AAAs such as Resident Evil: Village and Forza Horizon 5. Absent, among others, are Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart or the acclaimed Kena: Bridge of Spirits. If you are interested in our Cyberpunk 2077 review you can read it here.
