Project Zomboid seems to be more prevalent on streaming platforms such as Twitch and YouTube than Among Us was back in the day.
Could it be that streamers are catapulting a game – in this case, Project Zomboid, developed by The Indie Stone – into the world of fame again? If you’re even minimally involved in the world of video games, you’re probably aware of how Among Us became a worldwide phenomenon back in the day.
Its release in 2018 was just the quiet prelude to a festival of success and fame, as various streamers helped the game grow in popularity. It seemed like a very isolated incident in the video game industry, but we may be experiencing the same situation with Project Zomboid.
To give you some context, Project Zomboid was a game that evolved from a tech demo released in 2011 (with Early Access on Steam in 2013) and is all about survival in a sandbox environment full of zombies. Well, it seems that this approach has caught the attention of today’s gamers, as its popularity has grown like wildfire on streaming platforms like Twitch and YouTube, as noted by Millennium.
Project Zomboid has managed to garner more than 48,000 concurrent players.
In addition, Steam sales of the title had also increased since August, when 7,100 concurrent players signed up. However, that number is now behind it, with 48,250 simultaneous users enjoying the game last Thursday.
Are we facing a new case like Among Us? Time will tell if Project Zomboid can appeal to key streamers in all countries, which could have a domino effect on increasing player numbers.
