Metal Gear Solid Still Hiding Secrets After 23 Years: Watch Out For This “Kojima Twist”! [VIDEO]

Hideo Kojima is one of the most ingenious minds in the video game industry, a quality he has shown in developing Metal Gear Solid.

If you played the original Metal Gear Solid, you wouldn’t be surprised by the secrets and easter eggs: just think of the radio frequency on the cover to call Meryl or the iconic battle against Psycho Mantis. Now Master Kojima has once again dazzled us with another extravagant idea. Yes, a secret was discovered 23 years after its release.

Be warned; we’re about to enter a hectic field of spoilers!

In one of the game’s final stages, there’s a chase sequence in which we flee in a car armed with a machine gun. Along the tunnel you drive through, you’ll have to shoot any soldiers in your way while controlling Snake. However, speedrunner PlatonicGuy has discovered that you can switch the controller to port 2 to deal with enemy soldiers who interfere with the scene.

This exciting feature is very similar to the encounter with Psycho Mantis, as this psychic was able to avoid all our attacks until we switched the controller to port 2, after which the enemy is no longer able to “read” Snake’s mind. This instalment deeply scarred the community, not only because of its extreme difficulty but also because the villain could break the fourth wall and read PlayStation save files, which in addition unlocked extra dialogue when playing other Konami games.

This is certainly a well-kept secret that has remained hidden until today, demonstrating the ingenuity of the developers in incorporating a curiosity of this calibre. It’s conceivable that we could discover even more details in Kojima’s games, as he spared no effort when it came to talking about crazy ideas that supposedly never made it into his games. On the other hand, the gaming community has proven that it loves to dig into every pixel of a video game…
