Shin Megami Tensei V: Atlus’ JRPG Ends The Year With Record Sales

Shin Megami Tensei for Nintendo Switch has become the best-selling game in the series.

The Shin Megami Tensei franchise and its spin-offs are enjoying a golden age, with Persona 5 Strikers selling more than 1.3 million copies worldwide and the latest instalment in the main saga, Shin Megami Tensei V, closing the year with more than 800,000 copies sold.

In terms of numbers, the Nintendo Switch version is the most successful of the main series, surpassing Shin Megami Tensei IV’s sales of 600,000 units in less than two months, two years after its release. The figures were shared in a report published by Famitsu and reported by Nintendo Everything.

We also learned that Atlus has big plans for 2022, a year they described as “challenging” and for which they are already preparing to release a new game. Shinjiro Takada, the company’s product manager, promised that this new title would be critical for the company and encouraged us to keep our eyes peeled for further announcements.

The latest instalment in the JRPG franchise has not only been a hit in sales but has also received excellent reviews – including from us – as the game is as addictive as it is challenging.
