It is somewhat sad when the CEO of a publisher has to go public to refute Hogwarts Legacy rumours.
After all, two games have initially been due to be released in 2021 by Warner, but then both of them ended up with 2022 as the release window. The two games in question are Hogwarts Legacy and Gotham Knights, the former of which we’ve already rumoured was looking at a further delay, so a 2023 launch for the Harry Potter-inspired action RPG is not out of the question, but others still suggest that the magical project is due to hit stores later this year. Then, Warner Bros.’ Brazilian Twitter account also “semi-confirmed” a 2022 release.
Jason Kilar, CEO of WarnerMedia, also got fed up with this neither-then-nor-now state of affairs and announced on Twitter that the two games announced in 2020 will not arrive in 2023. As expected, he was not talking directly about these games but about WarnerMedia’s 2021 financial results and 2022 strategy. “This mission, this strategy continues in ’22 with a sense of urgency: launching HBO Max in many more countries this quarter and the balance of the year, launching CNN+, delivering of a full slate of highly anticipated games,” he wrote, while Hogwarts Legacy and Gotham Knights have appeared in the accompanying images.
When the two games were announced, this is what David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games, said: “Hogwarts Legacy gives players control over their own experience with RPG gameplay unlike anything else in the Wizarding World, which will continue to build fan appeal in the Portkey Games label. Avalanche has brought to life this rich and deep world, full of action-packed magic, as well as a detailed, mysterious story to engage fans and gamers alike.”
So Hogwarts Legacy is supposedly coming out this year for PC and consoles (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One). Still, it’s better to be doubtful because we won’t be disappointed that way.
