MOVIE NEWS – According to the latest Joker 2 news, the script’s first draft has been submitted to Warner Bros., and shooting is tentatively scheduled to begin next year.
Joker, the Clown Master of Crime, could be back on the big screen soon! Ever since the massive success of Todd Phillips’ 2019 film, there have been rumours that the main villain’s origin story is getting a sequel. These rumours are still going strong, and the latest news is that the sequel has now taken a big step forward with the leak of when production could begin.
According to Heroic Hollywood, a Warner Bros. “insider” has revealed that the studio has just received the first draft of the Joker 2 script. What’s more, the shooting is scheduled to begin sometime in 2023. Without official confirmation, it’s best to treat these rumours with caution for now.
There is no information on what the script might contain, although we can assume that Joaquin Phoenix will probably return as Arthur Fleck.
The Joker is directed by Todd Phillips and written by Phillips and Scott Silver. The film serves as the origin story of the Joker and shows how a failed clown and comedian becomes Gotham City’s most villainous villain. The open-ended sequel has left fans debating whether a sequel is essential, but with the film’s incredible financial success – including grossing over a billion dollars at the box office – Warner Bros. is working hard to get Phillips and Phoenix back on board for a sequel.
Back in October, Joaquin Phoenix spoke to The Playlist about the possibility of Joker 2. The actor said that he remains open to returning to the role, though he could not clarify whether a sequel would officially happen one way or another. He also suggested that they could take the story in many different directions.
“I dunno… I mean, I dunno. From when we were shooting, we started to -you know, uhh, this is an interesting guy. There are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further. But as to whether we actually will? I don’t know,” Phoenix said.
Indeed, there are many ways a potential sequel could go, but it will undoubtedly be a challenge for the filmmakers to pull off the impossible a second time. The original film was widely acclaimed, and Phoenix even won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance. A worthy sequel to such a blockbuster is always a huge challenge, but with Phillips and Phoenix, the right ingredients would be in place to make it work.
