Gene Hackman Turns 92 – Fans Greeted Him With Great Ovation On Twitter

MOVIE NEWS – Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman hasn’t acted since 2004, but his fans cheered him on his 92nd birthday.

Fans celebrate Gene Hackman’s 92nd birthday as he is a living legend in Hollywood. Hackman, who retired in 2004, is the oldest living Oscar-winning actor. At a relatively young age, he won the award for his role as Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in 1971’s The French Connection and later won Best Supporting Actor for his role as Bill Daggett in 1992’s Unforgiven. Hackman was also nominated for Bonnie and Clyde, I Never Sang For My Father and Mississippi Burning.

Of course, his fans have fond memories of Hackman’s work, not only his award-winning performances.

In the 1978 film Superman, he played the super-villain Lex Luthor convincingly as Christopher Reeves and returned in the film’s sequel. Some of his other acclaimed roles include The Poseidon Adventure, A Bridge Too Far, The Firm, Enemy of the State, The Replacements (okay, we love that one because of Keanu Reeves, too), and The Royal Tenenbaums – but the list goes on.

“Happy birthday Gene Hackman, a talented acting machine! I loved him as Buck Barrow in Bonnie And Clyde, terrific as Det. Popeye Doyle in The French Connection, as surveillance expert Harry Caul in The Conversation, and at his best as burned out Det. Harry Moseby in Night Moves,” writes one fan.

Another fan writes: “Happy 92nd birthday to the beautiful and talented Gene Hackman. The French Connection is one of my favorite films, and Hoosiers and, yes, Poseidon Adventure are way up there too.”

“Happy Birthday to Gene Hackman,” reads a third tweet. “92 yrs old! He has been one of my favorite actors since I was a little kid. I have always loved him. A tremendous actor.”

After an incredible career, Gene Hackman’s last starring role was in 2004, in the political satire Finding the President’s Man, alongside Ray Romano. Shortly afterwards, he announced that he had quit acting and found a new love in writing fiction. Although no longer acting, Hackman was the narrator of the Marine documentaries The Unknown Flag Raiser of Iwo Jima in 2016 and We, The Marines in 2017.

Happy 92nd birthday, Gene Hackman!
