EA Removes Marc Overmars From FIFA Ultimate Team After Scandal And Dismissal

The Dutch football star is embroiled in a scandal over his misconduct at Ajax, which FIFA cannot tolerate.

Regardless of what you think of FIFA’s saga, the truth is that the game, which has an annual spend, is a symbol of football worldwide. With this in mind, EA Sports is quick to react by removing players from the game who are involved in scandals arising from their behaviour. As we reported recently, this happened to Manchester United player Mason Greenwood, and now manager Marc Overmars has been removed.

Marc Overmars’ ICONO items will no longer be available

“To the FIFA community: Marc Overmars will no longer be included in the FIFA Ultimate Team [FUT] and Ultimate Draft packages. Therefore, Marc Overmars’ ICONO items will no longer be available in the packs,” the developers announced.

Marc Overmars, the 1990s Dutch national team star and former manager of Ajax, where he was also a player, was sacked last weekend after repeated accusations of harassing female staff.

Unfortunately, Overmars’ case is neither unique nor particularly unusual. Just last week, EA had to do the same to Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood, who was accused of rape by his partner; it was the same allegations that led to the sacking of Manchester City winger Benjamin Mendy last September.
