MOVIE NEWS – The end has undoubtedly begun for Stranger Things, as the fifth season will be the final season of the popular Netflix original.
All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately, Stranger Things is no exception. The horror series, set in the 1980s, first debuted on Netflix in 2016 and has been widely acclaimed, with all three seasons generating very high ratings for the streaming service. But shortly after it was announced that the fourth season would launch in May, Netflix unveiled the bittersweet news that Stranger Things had been renewed for a fifth and final season.
“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, said in part in a joint statement shared by Netflix. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but – as you’ll soon see for yourselves – we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”
The letter added: “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down. As always, we are grateful for your patience and support.”
The Duffer brothers also described Season 4 as their most challenging yet. There were so many stories to tell that the season had to be split into two parts. Netflix has revealed that the first episode will arrive in May, with the second half of the season coming in July. There is no word yet on when season 5 will be released, but judging by how long we had to wait for season 4, we probably have plenty of time.
Stranger Things 4: Vol 1 will premiere on May 27, 2022, exclusively on Netflix. Vol 2 will follow with a July 1, 2022 premiere date.
