Due to the nature of the game, Secret Mode feels that the time is not suitable to release new versions of Little Orpheus.
The developers of Little Orpheus are not alone: Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has shocked almost everyone, and the video game industry has not lost sight of the sad event we are living through. The team at The Chinese Room, known for developing Dear Esther and for their involvement in Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, have decided to postpone the PC and console release of their game Little Orpheus, which was scheduled for yesterday, due to the war in Ukraine.
This was announced by the publisher itself, Secret Mode, via its Twitter account. In the statement, the distributor believes that this is not the best time to launch a title that deals with a war context that does not match reality: “While Little Orpheus was originally released on the Apple Arcade in June 2020 and does not directly reference recent world events, we recognise that some of the game’s themes and content may be upsetting to players at this time.”
Secret Mode, therefore, announces that Little Orpheus will remain without a release date for PC and consoles, at least for now, and thanks to the community for their understanding. After all, the title of The Chinese Room is an adventure game with a Soviet aesthetic, starring a Russian pilot, so they’re postponing the release to a more relaxed date.
The war in Ukraine has triggered a wave of mobilisation in the video game industry
In response, several developers have decided to donate large sums of money to help those affected by the situation in the country, with CD Projekt RED, in particular, making a donation of €200,000 and Embracer Group contributing $1 million, as announced in the last few hours.
