Outward Definitive Edition Coming To PC, PS5 & Xbox Series With Lots Of New Features [VIDEO]

Nine Dots Studios’ 2019 role-playing game Outward focused on action and open-world survival.

Outward was one of the big surprises for RPG fans in 2019: Nine Dots Studios’ game was not even expected to sell much but found itself a success that exceeded one million copies sold across all platforms on which it was available.

The studio’s CEO Guillaume Boucher-Vidal spoke of Outward as a game that, “while not perfect, has a huge heart.” The studio has now surprised us with a Definitive Edition of their RPG that aims to go a step further, tweaking some of the issues they’ve encountered in the community and making an even more potent version for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

“This is the plan to get Outward in the best possible shape. It wouldn’t be enough to just bring the game to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, tweak the graphics a little bit, put in the DLCs and leave it there. Thanks to the fantastic feedback we’ve received from the community, we’ve made a lot of big changes to the game,” the studio promised in the Outward: Definitive Edition teaser trailer. The improvements include: less complicated spells, improvements to the crafting menu, or the availability of a co-op save mode.

Owners of the game and the two DLCs can upgrade to the Definitive Edition for free

The edition will also include the new additions of the two expansions, The Soroboreans and The Three Brothers, integrating them more organically into all game regions. Areas deemed inadequate by the studio have also been revamped, including the Vendavel Fortress and the dungeons beneath the ancient plateau. Nine Dots Studios has also thought of the game’s veterans, adding unique encounters to many of the mazes, so even the most seasoned players may be in for a surprise.

Players who already own the base game and the two DLCs can upgrade to the Definitive Edition for free. According to Gematsu, the game’s new release is expected in May, although no date has been confirmed yet.
