Dragon Age Saga’s creative director, Mike Laidlaw, announced the development of a new action RPG from Yellow Brick Games.
Laidlaw was one of the main names behind Dragon Age Saga, the game which made BioWare’s name prominent in the field of action RPGs. He was stepping down as creative director in 2017, and we’ve had to wait until 2022 to learn of his new plans.
In a series of announcements by Take-Two-owned Private Division, he told the fans that he is working on a new, as-yet-unnamed project at Yellow Brick Games. It is most likely that the game won’t be released until the fiscal year 2024 at the earliest. But it’s the nature of the new title that’s important, and from what Laidlaw says, it’s an ambitious action RPG. The genre wasn’t surprising given Laidlaw’s experience, but it’s striking that he talks about “taking risks that aren’t possible in triple-A game development”.
“The studio believes that emerging systems create rich, interactive worlds,” says Private Division. According to Mike Laidlaw, the partnership with Take-Two’s label will allow them to create a “truly memorable” game, he added that they want to offer something special for their debut.
As for the new Dragon Age, we know that BioWare is still working on it, with no concrete date set for a future release. They’ve likely had to deal with some development issues, as the team has suffered several departures in recent months.
