MOVIE NEWS – Season 3 of The Witcher is well underway, with Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt of Rivia reunited as a family.
While it was reported a few days ago that filming for the new season of The Witcher was almost upon us, Netflix just confirmed today that filming has begun, facing the challenge of continuing to maintain the service’s audience success with adaptations of fantasy novels.
To make the wait a little easier, Netflix has shared a first look at the filming, in which the trio of protagonists are seen as a family again, waiting to spring into action. Yennefer, Ciri and Geralt of Rivia, of course, are played by Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan and Henry Cavill. And we’ve already got a first taste of the plot, which gives us an idea of what we’ll see in the series.
Political intrigue, battles and betrayal await the trio
“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever,” – the synopsis reads.
In light of this, viewers can be sure there will be no shortage of action, magic and – once again – palace intrigue. When we will see it is a mystery. According to the Redanian Intelligence website, filming for the third season of The Witcher is expected to continue until September.
Before that, The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel miniseries, will arrive on Netflix. A few weeks ago, CD Projekt RED confirmed the development of a new era of The Witcher, although few details are known about the Polish team’s video game.
