Zack Snyder’s New Film, Rebel Moon Will Be Longer Than We Thought

MOVIE NEWS – Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder’s latest film, debuts on Netflix and brings a new francise to the table.

Last year, we learned that Snyder was about to create a new story. The new sci-fi film was originally intended to be a Star Wars movie, but when Lucasfilm turned it down, Netflix bought the idea. The film tells the story of a young woman who “becomes the face of a rising resistance against the galaxy’s conquerors.”

Although the film was originally conceived as a Star Wars story, the response of Lucasfilm gave the director the freedom to create his own world. And we know that Snyder is always thinking ahead. After Army of the Dead we got Army of Thieves, and with Planet of the Dead he created his own universe. It’s likely that the Rebel Moon universe won’t stop at just one movie, with spinoffs coming on Netflix after the premiere.

The film stars Sofia Boutella, she will be joined on screen by Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Rupert Friend, Stuart Martin, Ray Fisher, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman and Alfonso Herrera. The filming soon ends and Netflix is considering releasing it in two parts instead of the originally planned single film.

Zack Snyder is no stranger to long films. From the fan-driven 4-hour Justice League to the more than 2-hour Army of the Dead, he tries to fit everything into his films. It also looks like his upcoming Rebel Moon will be more epic than previously thought, as it is planned to have two parts.

The news of the film’s split comes from The Hollywood Reporter. Justice League on HBO Max was indeed great, but perhaps too long. Instead, Netflix is splitting the story into two separate films, and if the reception of the two parts is positive, spinoffs will follow. After the success of Army of the Dead, we can expect Rebel Moon to be the first step towards another cinematic universe.

Little is known about Rebel Moon, but it is a brave move to build a new world from scratch without the help of an established franchise.
