MOVIE NEWS – On April 18, the much anticipated day arrived when the first trailer for the record-breaking Thor: Love and Thunder was released. No wonder fans jumped on it, with 209 million views in 24 hours.
The trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder arrived on Monday and, considering how long it took to arrive, it racked up a respectable 209 million views in its first 24 hours. This makes it currently one of the most watched trailers (alongside the two new Avengers films and the latest Spider-Man). The 90 seconds trailer doesn’t reveal much about the film in itself; fast, alternating and eye-catching cutscenes, little jokes and of course Thor’s character make the new teaser interesting. However, it’s actually almost the same as the prevously released synopsis of Thor: Love and Thunder:
“The film finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”

Much of the trailer is in line with the opening of Thor: Love and Thunder, except for the final extra scene after the title, in which Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster swings the famous Mjolnir. From the description and trailer of the film, you’d think that Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy would part ways for good, but who knows, maybe Waititi has some surprises in store for us on that front and they’ll be there to help Thor in his final battle with Gorr.
Chris Hemsworth has told fans that the new film will have them “laughing, crying and laughing until they cry” with a hint of humour already revealed in the trailer itself. Waititi, meanwhile, has described the film as the craziest one he made, and will find it hard to live up to the standards he set in Thor.
“Well, just between [me and] you and the readers, I’ve done some crazy sh*t in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done. If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.”
As for whether Thor: Love and Thunder will eventually feature the Guardians of the Galaxy, and how Waititi will capture Gorr’s story thread and his clash with the god, we may find out soon when a longer trailer for the new Thor film arrives. However, there is no specific date for that yet.
