Sonic Origins: Another Collection Of The First Few Games [VIDEO]

This time, SEGA tries a greedy solution to the origin of the blue hedgehog.

The game collection (which will include four games: Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, i.e. the three SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis games plus the SEGA CD title) will be released in two editions, and the base version will also be $40/euro. The Digital Deluxe edition, which will be $45/euro, will provide the base games, as well as the hard missions, character animations in the main menu, camera control over the main menu islands, character animations during the music islands, and additional music from the Mega Drive games.

Savour this: SEGA has the nerve to charge for extra music and animation. But that’s not all: the pre-order bonus gives you 100 bonus coins, Mirror mode unlocked, and a letterbox aspect ratio background with Mega Drive patterns. There’s also a $4 Premium Fun Pack, which gives you the extras just listed for the digital deluxe version, and for another $4, you get extra music from Sonic games released for the 16-bit console. To repeat: we’re talking about four games that are nearly thirty years old, for which SEGA is asking so much money that you could buy three proper AAA games or several outstanding indie titles.

Both Classic and Anniversary modes will be available. The former offers the original visuals with classic gameplay and classic challenges, and the latter offers unlimited lives and no game overs, along with full-screen gameplay. Completing more missions in the games will also give you medals to unlock extra content. Graphically, these are remastered games, so you don’t get precisely the same as you did with the emulation of the four original games. System requirements:

Minimum system requirements:

  • 64-bit operating system and processor required
  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64
  • Processor: Intel Core [email protected] GHz or AMD [email protected] GHz, or better
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 with 2 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon HD 7790 with 2 GB VRAM or better

…and this is not mentioned, but an internet connection, we’ll explain why

Recommended system requirements:

  • 64-bit operating system and processor required
  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64
  • Processor: Intel Core [email protected] GHz or AMD Ryzen 3 [email protected] GHz or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 with 2 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon R9 280 with 3 GB VRAM or better
  • Internet connection

Sonic Origins will be released on June 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. High system requirements on PC? An Internet connection for three games this old? Yes, because SEGA will use Denuvo, which is ridiculous, considering it’s three Mega Drive and one SEGA CD title. And they’re also shoddy at leaving Denuvo in (by then, it’s just an unnecessary expense!) up to three years after the game’s release, and there’s an example within the franchise: Team Sonic Racing…

And for Sonic fans, a better idea might be Sonic 3 AIR, Sonic 2 Community’s Cut, or the 2013 Retro Engine version of the first part.
