MOVIE NEWS – Marvel Studios’ TV series are proving as popular as their movies, and even brand new characters like the Moon Knight are proving a big draw.
Marvel’s Moon Knight has brought something new to the MCU with an action-packed supernatural series that isn’t really connected to any other Marvel projects so far. While that could be considered a risk, like many other Marvel Studios Disney+ series, Moon Knight performed quite nicely on the platform, and after the season wrapped up last week, it turned out to be the highest-grossing streaming premiere of the year so far on all platforms.

According to data released by Parrot Analytics (via The Wrap), The Moon Knight managed to overtake HBO Max’s DC series Peacemaker as the most searched US premiere across data that looks at streaming numbers, downloads, account customer research and social media interactions, among other things. As for future launches, Marvel has plenty of new series premiering this year, such as Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk, with plenty more to come. By comparison, there aren’t many big series coming to HBO Max to take the baton back from Marvel this year, but it looks like they’ll start ramping up their streaming output in the coming years.
Also receiving good news is Taika Waititi’s Our Flag Means Death, which, unlike the Marvel or DC series, may not have had colossal premiere results but managed to pick up and retain a large audience during the series’ run. Although big superhero series always tends to generate a lot of interest in their initial episodes, they may suffer some setbacks as the series progresses.

In recent interviews, both lead actor Oscar Isaac and director Mohamed Diab have stated that they have no idea if they plan on giving Moon Knight another outing. In contrast, however, the series ended with a very teasing post-credits scene that almost demands a second season, and one of the consulting producers revealed that there is still much to discover about the character: We have only seen the beginning of Marc Spector’s story…
