A narrative-driven RPG is in the works, and while it doesn’t have a considerable budget (especially when you compare it to AAA publishers), it still looks promising. And the team behind This War of Mine and Frostpunk is involved…
11 Bit Studios, its external development department and game developer Fool’s Theory (Seven: Enhanced Edition) have announced Project Vitriol, a narrative-centric RPG and the publisher’s biggest game to date. A significant launch will come later this summer, so we don’t know when we can expect it yet, or which platforms will get the Vitriol game.
We know the budget: more than 17 million zloty, or a little over 3.8 million dollars. This amount will be used to provide complete voice acting, and some mocap (motion capture) work will be included, as the budget will allow the devs to digitalize some movements. The funding will give Project Vitriol a scale and scope that no title so far has managed to reach regarding the publisher.
In the press release, Jakub Rokosz, Fool’s Theory’s CEO and the project’s lead, said, “Our game is a deep, morally ambiguous narrative-driven RPG, but let me unveil a bit of the real essence: the game is about the esoteric side of reality, that dark part of the world that most of us don’t see and are not aware of. But the darkness—it is there, lurking behind every corner.
It watches us closely from the shadows, and whether we know it or not, it takes its toll, making sure we’re going to have a debt to pay. [Vitriol’s] story begins in a place and time where reality, folklore, energy and mysticism met in a melting pot: early XX century Warsaw, under imperial Russian tsardom. Global reveal of Project Vitriol coming this summer!”
Then we will hear more about the game soon. The idea itself seems attractive because of the era.
