The latest update has reignited interest in CI Games’ ambitious RPG. Since the launch of version 2.0 on April 17, Lords of the Fallen has sold 200,000 copies, proving that the franchise still has plenty of life left in it.
Lords of the Fallen was never a complete failure, but when it launched in 2023, it drew plenty of criticism due to technical issues and its inconsistent execution as a Soulslike title. Still, CI Games refused to throw in the towel. For over a year, the team pushed out more than 50 updates to refine and polish the experience, preparing the game for its next chapter. Their persistence paid off, especially with the latest update, which added a full co-op mode and helped push 200,000 new sales in just eight days.
Version 2.0 changed everything for the franchise
The arrival of version 2.0 marked a turning point in how gamers viewed Lords of the Fallen. With nearly two million total copies sold and more than fifty updates rolled out, studio CEO Marek Tymiński proudly declared that community sentiment has improved drastically: “We really managed to change the perception of the franchise.”
Part of this renewed interest came from the addition of co-op play, including the new Friends Pass, which allows a friend to join your game for free. This feature was a hit with the community and significantly contributed to the surge in sales since April 17. While Tymiński did not specify which platform performed best, it’s assumed that the numbers reflect combined sales across all available versions.
CI Games is now focused on Project 3
Having turned things around, CI Games isn’t slowing down. According to Tymiński, the team is now channeling all of its energy into Project 3, the next major installment in the franchise, expected to release in 2026. The first official trailer is set to drop in the coming months.
Project 3 aims to take the Lords of the Fallen universe to the next level with both single-player and co-op gameplay available from launch—a decision inspired by the warm reception to version 2.0. With this upcoming entry, CI Games hopes to secure its place among the top dark fantasy action series, riding the momentum created by its most recent successes.
