The leaks surrounding The Last of Us Part 1 and God of War: Ragnarok were no coincidence, so it wouldn’t be a big surprise if we hear of more exclusives from PlayStation Studios later this year…
Speaking on the XboxEra podcast, Nick Baker (Shpeshal_Nick) and Jeff Grubb, writing for VentureBeat, said that Sony has yet to find the cause of the security breach, so it’s almost sure that we’ll hear about games for PlayStation 5 (and maybe even PlayStation 4…?) before the official announcements. Baker leaked gameplay footage of The Last of Us Part 1 (which Sony and Naughty Dog then “hurtfully” shared officially), so they might be onto something.
Also, with God of War: Ragnarok, there was talk of a more expensive collector’s edition before the announcement and that Sony was planning to announce a release date. Insiders had access to the PlayStation Blog post, but Sony just delayed the announcement and brought forward the return of Kratos and Atreus by a few days (all of which we’ve reported on in recent weeks).
Baker said Sony has a minor security issue, and Grubb agreed with his statement. Baker said he had received offers for more first-party, internally developed PlayStation games and then hinted at further leaks of God of War: Ragnarok. According to Grubb and Baker, “someone has gotten a hold of something” at Sony. A Reddit user pointed to a thread on the site a few months ago where a user bragged about having access to a company laptop with 100 gigabytes of data. Everyone brushed it off at the time, but it could be that someone took a risk and got into Sony’s internal network.
Whatever the case, it is safe to say that we have seen fewer leaks from the Microsoft/Xbox Game Studios area than Sony/PlayStation Studios has shown.
