Cameron Monaghan Can’t Stop Praising His Co-Star From Paradise Highway [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Shameless star Cameron Monaghan has spoken in detail about what it was like to work with Morgan Freeman.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Cameron Monaghan sat down to talk about his new film Paradise Highway. Monaghan is a famous star among gamers (and Star Wars fans), as he plays Cal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the upcoming sequel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

The new film’s plot is about a truck driver named Sally (Juliette Binoche) who goes on the run with a teenage girl named Lelia (Hala Finley) to save her from sexual slavery. Cameron Monaghan and Morgan Freeman play two FBI agents chasing the former two characters.

“Morgan Freeman’s character is old hat at this. He’s been doing it for over 50 years and doesn’t necessarily play by the rules anymore.”

“And he has enough seniority that he’s able to get away with it. And [my character] is the person who’s questioning whether or not that’s always the right decision to make. There’s a little friction between these two characters, and I think that’s an interesting dynamic, you know, for someone who is maybe a bit more new school and has some different thoughts about this than what his character does.”

Cameron Monaghan said what was wonderful about the script was that despite the dark subject matter, the characters in the story had fantastic human elements. Binoche and Finley’s dynamic of heavy-handedness mixed with that humanity alongside his character, who, recently released from a desk job at the FBI, finally gets some experience in the field.

“So when I was reading it, you know, even though this script is about human trafficking and sexual slavery, which are very difficult subjects, it didn’t feel like it was a chore. Instead, it felt like every page was flying by, and I just really needed to know what happened and how this story was going to resolve and where it was going to go.”

When describing what it was like to work with a film legend like Freeman, Monaghan didn’t think he would shock anyone by being an absolute pro.

What Freeman and Monaghan have in common is that they both starred in the Batman franchise. Freeman played Lucius Fox in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and Monaghan as Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska in Gotham. Unfortunately, the filming schedule for Paradise Highway was so tight that Monaghan could not interrogate Freeman about everything Batman-related.

Often, Monaghan only caught the first half of the story before he had a chance to hear the whole story later.

According to him, Freeman was always open and willing to talk about his work. Cameron Monaghan says it is admirable that someone has been acting for as long as Freeman has while still being passionate and respectful about the profession.
