Geoff Keighley announced that Sonic Frontiers would make its world premiere and open world game news at Gamescom.

 

 

We now know that Gamescom will be the showcase for Sonic Frontiers, the upcoming open-world Sonic the Hedgehog game. As many Sonic fans have been wanting to learn more about this title for a long time, this announcement has made many even more excited ahead of Gamescom 2022.

In a Twitter post, Geoff Keighley announced that Sonic Frontiers would be one of the games unveiled at this year’s Gamescom.

He told his followers that a world premiere on the opening night of Gamescom on 23 August would share updates and news on the upcoming first open-world instalment of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

Many Sonic fans have been excited by this announcement, and others have let others know how excited they are for Gamescom. Some fans even brought up what they wanted to know about the upcoming title, such as the release date for Sonic Frontiers and additional gameplay mechanics that hadn’t been revealed via trailers or gameplay clips.

Developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega, Sonic Frontiers was first revealed at Sonic Central’s launch event in May 2021.

It was revealed there that the developers wanted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog with the game. Although initially scheduled for release last year, it was postponed until the end of 2022. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting to learn more about the game, hoping it will revolutionise the series like similar open-world games have done.

There’s been a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog news recently, including a collaboration with Fall Guys that will see players of the party battle game get Sonic the Hedgehog-themed skins at an event called Sonic’s Adventure, which will take place from August 11-15.

The third film in the series, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, has also been announced and is scheduled to be released on 20 December 2024.

With so much news centred around Sonic the Hedgehog, the fact that fans know they can find out more about the game at the end of the month only makes things better. Sonic Frontiers will be released in 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
