Ballistic Moon: Ex-Until Dawn Developers Working On A Game For Sony

The CV of an actor responsible for motion capture (mocap for short) has revealed that the British studio is secretly working for Sony Interactive Entertainment.

A look at Ballistic Moon’s LinkedIn reveals that the studio is working on a new game with one of the world’s leading publishers. There’s no way of knowing who they’re talking about, but the mocap artist’s CV mentions “Ballistic Moon & Sony Interactive Entertainment”. The person was responsible for the movement of two characters, and the game’s temporary placeholder name was also included. The code name is Project Bates, and Joshua Archer directs the mocap. He had similar roles in Until Dawn (developed by Supermassive Games) and Horizon Zero Dawn (developed by Guerrilla Games).

Ballistic Moon was founded in 2019 by three industry veterans. They are Neil McEwan, Chris Lamb and Duncan Kershaw. McEwan has previously worked on House of the Dead: Overkill and Syndicate, Lamb on Until Dawn and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, while Kershaw has worked on projects such as Heavy Rain, Sleeping Dogs, Disney Pixar’s Finding Nemo and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The studio has not yet said what type or genre of game it is working on. Still, older tweets indicate that it is a game with emotive performances using Unreal Engine 5, and the Ballistic Moon job listing page shows that it is a big project in its early stages. The studio has also tweeted about the mocap work.

Ballistic Moon has retweeted the trailer for Halloween Ends (the film will debut on October 14) with the hashtag #inspiration so that Project Bates could be a reference to Psycho.

It could be a PlayStation VR2 project, but it could also be a PlayStation 5 game. We don’t know yet, but it’s a safe bet that Supermassive Games had previously worked closely with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Still, relations between the two parties soured, and the studio began making The Dark Pictures Anthology for Bandai Namco. And in the meantime, the team was acquired by Nordisk.
