Rollerdrome’s PlayStation Plus Premium Demo Has Been Troublesome!

Roll7’s game isn’t what you’d expect from the most expensive category of PlayStation Plus subscriptions.

Rollerdrome is out now, and it’s one of the games where PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can try out a demo to see if they’re interested or if it’s a forgettable experience. So far, it makes sense. The problem comes at the demo’s length: an hour of gameplay is supposed to be provided for the audience subscribing to the most expensive tier of PS Plus. In practice, this is not the case.

Push Square has tested how long Rollerdrome is playable for them. Sixty minutes? No. Thirty-five! That’s not quite what was mentioned in the details on the PlayStation Store. Sure, it could be a technical glitch, but Roll7, or perhaps Sony, should fix it as soon as possible, as it could be seen as consumer deception. And gamers are rightly asking the question: How does the demo not work as it should by default?

It’s also fair to ask whether it’s worth subscribing to PlayStation Plus Premium. In August, zero games were added to the classic (PS1, PS2, PSP local, PS3 cloud) games, while PlayStation Plus Extra, the middle tier, received no less than thirteen PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games. We wouldn’t exactly call that fair.

Since Sony introduced the three-tier PlayStation Plus, there have been many bugs, and we’ve reported on quite a few over the last few months. The quality, resolution and performance of PS1 and PS2 games available on PlayStation Plus, the license issues blocking game downloads, multiple payments when upgrading to a higher subscription tier, and so on. Not everything starts nicely, but this situation is sad.

If another demo is similarly short, then surely Sony will be in trouble, as it would no longer be a one-off bug but a rip-off of subscribers. After all, this, don’t be surprised if PlayStation Plus Essential’s September games leak out.
