[GC 2022] Tortuga: A Pirate’s Tale: The Pirate Series Returns On PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One And PC [VIDEO]

Publisher Kalpyso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studios have announced the upcoming pirate strategy adventure game Tortuga: A Pirate’s Tale for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC (Epic Games Store), set for release in the first quarter of 2023.

Here’s an overview of the game via Kalpyso Media:

In Tortuga: A Pirate’s Tale, it’s time to find out if you really have what it takes to become the greatest pirate in the Caribbean! You’ll set sail across the vast and beautiful Caribbean as players set sail for eternal gold and glory. Choose from 18 unique ship types and customize everything from flags and weapons to hulls and headdresses. It’s a big world out there, but you’re never truly alone, and players will encounter historic pirate captains who they must decide whether they are friends or foes. Take on trade convoys and settlements in tactical, turn-based battles to relieve them of the burden of wealth, then use the (stolen) riches to develop your formidable fleets. You might even keep your crew happy with a huge fleet and enough gold. But be warned! You are, after all, an elected captain, and it is your duty to maintain the morale of your crew, or there may be mutiny on the horizon…

Be a pirate of all pirates – You’re not born a great pirate, but we’ll give you the tools to be The Great Pirate. Role play over 35 different pirate skills on your way to earning your pirate throne. Customize your own flag under which your fleet will sail. As you gain more experience, your reputation and skills will grow.

Raid and voyage the Caribbean – The 17th century Caribbean is dominated by the four colonial powers of the Old World. Being a pirate is not your fault, but your responsibility! Take action to free the Spanish, Dutch, French and English colonies from the burden of drowning in wealth. But be careful! Unless you’re sure you’re the biggest fish in the sea, don’t venture too early or too far from the harbour of your trusted home town.

Engage in tactical naval battles – A ship is safe in a harbour, but that’s not what ships are built for. Fight in tactical, turn-based naval battles on an epic-sized hexagonal grid. Use your wits when raiding a convoy or a settlement. Victory will be determined by a clever combination of your ship’s special weaponry and the changing and harsh conditions of the sea.

Upgrade your fleet – You’re tasked with maintaining and sustaining a formidable fleet before facing the cannonade of mighty warships lurking on the seas. By combining different upgrades to your ship’s basic equipment, such as armament, hull, mast or shape, you can create over 360 unique outfits.

Meet the needs of your crew – As the chosen captain of the ship, it is your responsibility to share the spoils and riches with your crew. Agreeing on so-called “loot items” will clearly define the goals you are undertaking before leaving port. Remember that whispers of mutiny below decks can lead to ugly outcomes. You are, after all, an elected captain and not on board by the grace of God.

Mate with infamous pirate legends – On your way to becoming the most fearsome, glorious pirate captain, you’ll have the chance to meet a host of historic pirates. Choose your enemies and companions wisely…

Command historical ships – with 18 unique ship types such as Ship of the Line, Frigate, War Galleon and many more.

Immerse yourself in missions – Immerse yourself in over 25 hours of stories set in the golden age of piracy. The world is your oyster after all. Governors and fellow pirates provide you with valuable quests where you can earn some doubloons. Don’t forget to visit the local tavern and listen out for the latest gossip. A bottle of rum will loosen the tongue and point the way to otherwise hidden treasures…
