What the heck is going on these days? First Dead Island 2 pops up eight years after the original announcement, and now, a remake of Fear Effect does the same half a decade after its first reveal…

So, in August 2017, French studio Sushee announced they had started working on a remake of the first instalment after Fear Effect Sedna. At the time, Sushee founder Nejamin Asnseaume said, “We realised that as well as offering established fans something new with Sedna, it would be great to introduce fresh players to Fear Effect by remaking that first great adventure. Fear Effect Reinvented will capture the same spirit and atmosphere as the original game. Still, it’ll bring it into the present with drastically improved visuals, tweaked controls and other exciting extras. Fear not, however. Those originally fixed camera angles will remain in place, playing host to some brand new high-definition visuals.”

However, that was in 2017, but for fairness’ sake, we’ve embedded the original trailer from Twitter first, followed by the new footage from Forever Entertainment’s YouTube channel. It retains the cel-shaded visuals and the cover-based shootout, but there’s still a huge question mark over the release date. Although they say it’s “coming sooner than you think”, our only response is “five years”.

The video’s description says, “A group of mercenaries on a deadly mission – that can only mean one thing. Fear Effect Reinvented is an action-adventure, true-to-the-original remake of the first game from the classic Fear Effect franchise – refreshed with improved graphics and controls. Wi-Ming Lam, the daughter of a Hong Kong Triad boss, has been kidnapped. Take the roles of the mercenary trio: Hana, Glas, and Deke, and try to find the missing girl.

Fear Effect Reinvented is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
