[GC 2022] High On Life Went Below Forspoken’s Already Low Bar [VIDEO]

While we were sighing over the dialogue in Luminous Productions’ game, we didn’t know that Squanch Games’ product couldn’t even try: it was capable of undercutting Forspoken!

The writing styles of two games have been a common topic on Twitter this week, with High On Life making us shake our heads after Forspoken because you’d have to have some skill to be so vile by what you can hear in the video. Since the subject needs further explanation, let’s get started…

So, the video below, courtesy of IGN, shows a snippet from High on Life with the comment, “this game isn’t afraid to cross the line into video game indecency”. In contrast, the footage shows an anthropomorphic gun in the player character’s hand (it has a face for a reason: this gun can talk), engaging in dialogue with what looks like a little kid alien (a little cyclops?). This setup alone is disgusting, but it’s made worse by the fact that the kid wants to be shot, to which the gun protests strongly, but after the trigger is pulled, it spends a good fifteen seconds figuratively banging our heads against the wall, saying, oh, you shot a kid. All this in a video game with a graphic style aimed mainly at children…!?

It’s no coincidence that one user pointed out: “[A] reminder to folks that the Twitter account for High on Life was one of the many folks that dunked on Forspoken’s cringe dialogue. And, like, yes, Forspoken’s dialogue was terrible. Maybe Justin Roiland should overexplain a joke about a pot calling a kettle black on this one.”

Whether it takes itself seriously or not, it’s not precisely a playful scene where a kid is shot dead, even if it is done frivolously.
