It seems that 343 Industries alone can’t keep up with Halo, which is said to be the most extensive yet but hasn’t been sufficiently expanded in terms of content since its release.
Texas, US-based Certain Affinity has been working as a support studio on several Halo and Call of Duty games since 2007. Earlier this year, the team announced they were also developing content for Halo Infinite. Max Hoberman, the studio’s CEO, told VentureBeat () that the franchise will be getting “something big and new” from them, and that it’s their biggest project within the company right now…
“The biggest thing we’re doing that’s public right now, for over two years now, we’ve been working on Halo Infinite doing something that–they’re very prescriptive about what we can say. But we’re doing something unannounced, and we’re doing lead development on that unannounced thing, from conception and design. It’s something big and new for the franchise. But I can’t say any more about it. That’s our single largest project of our three projects currently. We have close to 100 developers working on that,” Hoberman said.
Windows Central reported that Certain Affinity was developing a new Halo Infinite game mode in January. It could be completely different or a battle royale attempt in the Halo franchise. We also heard from here that a Monster Hunter-style co-op game is also being worked on by Certain Affinity for Microsoft. The Redmond company is confident the studio can take some of the burdens off 343 Industries’ shoulders.
Earlier this month, we reported that 343 Industries head Bonnie Ross was leaving the studio after fifteen years to devote her time to a family medical issue (and as she spent 28 years at Microsoft, she was a veteran of the company). As a result, Microsoft has slightly reshuffled the studio’s management team. That’s why Pierre Hintze, the former head of production, became the head of 343 Industries.
