There is growing evidence to support the rumour that Virtuos, a multi-studio international team, is working on a Metal Gear Solid project.
The rumour that the international development studio Virtuos is working on a Metal Gear Solid game continues to grow. Konami has been in the news recently for licensing out several significant properties to a surprising number of game studios. These include several major Silent Hill games currently in development. Also, remasters of the first two Suikoden games. Metal Gear Solid is another obvious opportunity for Konami, which may have already happened.
Several recent reports suggest Virtuos may be working on a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snakeater remake for Konami.
Notably, a programmer at the studio has listed an unannounced AAA-quality, multiplatform action-adventure remake of the game in development. VGC also reported that publishing sources have confirmed that Virtuous’ project is a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Long story short, this has been in focus for a while.
The most recent evidence that Virtuos is working on a Metal Gear Solid game comes from a “Day in the Life at Virtuos Montreal” video marketing the Montreal office to potential new hires. In one part of the video, concept designer Louis-Alex Boismenu comments on the events. Below the video is a book called The Art of Metal Gear Solid. In itself, it’s just a book. But with all the other evidence that they are working on a Metal Gear Solid project, it’s hard to ignore.
Obviously, they won’t announce a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake until it’s finished if they are indeed working on it.
But it’s undeniable that if the project were announced, it would result in more applicants and higher quality applicants at that. Targeting Metal Gear Solid 3 could prove to be a wise decision at this point.
It could also be that Virtuos is not working on a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake at all. However, they have heard the rumours. This could be a way to boost recruitment. Even if the project Virtuos is working on is something else entirely. Or, of course, it could be that this Virtuos concept artist is simply a fan of Metal Gear Solid, and it’s unnecessary to look into it any further.
If an MGS game is in development at Virtuos or elsewhere, it’s only a matter of time before it’s officially announced. If Konami is willing to license the Silent Hill franchise, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Metal Gear Solid licensed as well, given the franchise’s success.
