MOVIE NEWS – Damon Lindelof’s newly announced Star Wars project will be a standalone project set after the events of the Age of Skywalker.
It has been confirmed that Lost and Watchmen writer Damon Lindelof is working on a Star Wars movie. More details have now emerged about the mysterious Star Wars project. It has been revealed that the project will be set after the events of Disney’s spinoff trilogy. It is intended to be a standalone film, which could lead to further adventures.
Sources, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, claim that Lindelof’s Star Wars project is “intended as a standalone but in success could lead to more movies.”
The report adds that “the story would take place after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” but it will “not be a continuation of the Skywalker saga.” It could, however, feature “some of the characters” introduced in 2015’s The Force Awakens, 2017’s The Last Jedi and finally, the events of 2019’s Age of Skywalker.
If these sources prove true, Lindelof’s Star Wars film would be the first to take place after the Disney trilogy. As we all know, the three ominous films have significantly divided the fanbase.
Kathleen Kennedy has already hinted at the return of the characters from Star Wars sequels
Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, has previously hinted at the return of the newly unveiled characters. “We’re moving further beyond the existing sequels as we look to our movie space,” Kennedy said back in May. “[The sequel era] is what we talk a lot about in terms of where we’re going with our movies, and just how far out from that we’ll go. That’s very much the space we’re concentrating on.”
Suppose Lindelof’s Star Wars film does indeed return to the world created in Disney’s trilogy, but not the world of the Skywalker saga. In that case, it suggests that Daisy Ridley’s Rey, John Boyega’s Finn and Oscar Isaac Poe’s Dameron will take centre stage, creating their own stories away from the legacy characters.
They are not, of course, the only characters freshly brought into the “Galaxy far, far away”. (In addition, some of the actors involved have said they do not intend to return for the sequel.) Lindelof has a whole host of new faces and worlds to play with. If nothing else, it will be interesting to see what happens to the galaxy after the Disney trilogy ends.
Damon Lindelof will be working with fellow writer Justin Britt-Gibson. Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been tasked with helming the Star Wars project. Lindelof is expected to bring the same twists and turns to the iconic franchise he introduced in Lost, Watchmen and The Leftovers.
Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars film has no release date yet. The earliest it could be released is December 2025.
