MOVIE NEWS – According to Dave Bautista, Netflix’s choice to find an actor for Marcus Fenix in the live-action Gears of War adaptation couldn’t be easier…
We heard from Netflix this week that there was going to be a live-action adaptation of Gears of War, and the audience was about unanimous in saying, “get Dave Bautista in the cast.” The wrestler-turned-actor Bautista does bear a strong resemblance to the iconic character from the IP launched by Epic Games but owned by Microsoft for nearly a decade (and continued at The Coalition). If that wasn’t enough, Bautista has said he’d be more than happy to take on the role of Marcus Fenix!
In 2019, he said he’d do anything for a Gears movie and then turned up in Gears 5 as himself. The man with the body of a COG soldier has since appeared in Blade Runner 2049 and Dune, but he also starred in a big-budget and not-very-good zombie production on Netflix and then found himself a good role as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, he hasn’t given up: he posted a video showing how he would portray Marcus, and… he would be perfect for the role.
The consensus is that his tweet/video is at nearly 20,000 retweets and 137,000 likes. So the audience would love to see Bautista as Marcus. One of them is Cliff Bleszinski, who wrote to him, “Bro, as the designer of [Gears of War] 1, 2, 3, you’re my first choice [for the role]”. He previously wrote that Karl Urban would be a good Marcus, that Ryan Reynolds would be perfect for Baird, and that Aaron Griffin should be played by Ice T. And after the Super Mario film news, he added that Chris Pratt should be kept out of the franchise (we can’t argue with that!).
If Netflix listens to the public, they’ll have Bautista sitting down at the negotiating table in concise order because if there’s that much consensus around a role, nothing wrong can come of it…
