What Games Does Rian Johnson Play? The Last Jedi & Knives Out Director Speakes!

MOVIE NEWS – With Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery about to hit cinemas, Rian Johnson reveals what games he’s been up to in recent months.

Famed film director Rian Johnson has recently revealed the video games he’s been trying out. Among other things, he said that he is about to take on God of War: Ragnarok. Johnson, known for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Out, has mixed reviews, but he seems to be quite the gamer.

Some hold him responsible for taking Star Wars in a direction that seems disrespectful to the films that came before it, while others praise him for trying to break out of the (they say) hackneyed Star Wars formula.

According to a recent interview with IGN, Johnson is excited to dive into the new God of War game finally. Although he hasn’t had the chance to play Ragnarok yet, he is an avid fan of the Grand Theft Auto games. The Breaking Bad “Ozymandias” director has spent the last few months remaking Grand Theft Auto 5. He is also nearing the finale of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The fact that Rian Johnson is a video game enthusiast should come as no surprise to anyone. He’s hardly the only person in Hollywood with a gaming hobby these days. After all, the famously nerdy Henry Cavill and Millie Bobbie Brown are also colossal video game fans. In fact, if rumours are to be believed, that’s at least part of the reason Cavill left Netflix’s The Witcher series. He reportedly resented that The Witcher’s source material – both books and games – was not treated with the respect it deserved by the writing team.

Johnson is not alone in his interest in God of War: Ragnarok – the developers at Santa Monica Studios have brought a real blockbuster to the table.

The enthusiasm for Kratos and his son Atreus has never been so widespread. Ragnarok is easily breaking PlayStation Store records. A sequel to both Glass Onion and God of War: Ragnarok are in the works, and while Johnson and Santa Monica Studios deserve credit for their efforts today, the future looks equally exciting.
