Tripod Studio and Smilegate have already launched their The Witcher crossover in South Korea, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer here to see it in the MMO/action RPG.
Amazon Games, the international publisher of Lost Ark (as Smilegate handles it in South Korea), has announced that The Witcher crossover will start on Western servers in January. Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, Triss, and Dandelion will join the game, featuring the original voice actors voicing the guest characters, and will be accompanied by a limited-time event. They will bring a new location, White Wolf’s Haven.
Amazon wrote of White Wolf’s Haven: “A setting for merriment and festivals until a mysterious vortex suddenly appears, pausing the celebrations. As players investigate the source of the unexplained phenomenon, they encounter a visitor from a different time and place – Geralt of Rivia, the famed Witcher. This starts a chain of events in which the player will face the mystery of this interdimensional vortex, meeting even more visitors from another dimension along the way. In this collision between worlds, players of Lost Ark will team up with characters from The Witcher to solve a puzzle that spans time and space.”
It wouldn’t be an MMO without the extra content tied to the crossover: “New Witcher-themed cosmetics will be available in the store, and new character customization scars, Cards, Stronghold structures, Emojis (and more) await adventurers who participate in the event.” It seems suspicious that the Geralt skins are all young, shaved, and almost anime-looking. And the Ciri skins, intended for non-human character classes, have pointed ears if they’re mages and child-like if they’re artists (this character type is currently only available in the South Korean version and is essentially a hobbit with its ink-based magic).
The Witcher has already appeared in several games (Soulcalibur 6, Monster Hunter World, or the mobile AFK Arena). Still, we also saw him in the leaked video of Fortnite Chapter 4, so he’ll soon be making an appearance in an Epic Games’ title…
