CD Projekt RED has confirmed that the actor will be playing the character of Solomon Reed in the only expansion to the critically acclaimed indoor adventure game released two years ago (which will also leave the previous console generation behind).
With so many announcements at this year’s The Game Awards, there’s plenty to keep us busy over the weekend. The downside is that it was the last significant video game event of the year, and we won’t hear much news until January, apart from the Microsoft-Activision Blizzard deal (e.g., the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has sued the Redmond-based tech giant).
In the meantime, here’s the second video from the already announced add-on by the Polish game developer CD Projekt RED (shortened to CDPR from now on), which surfaced at The Game Awards. In it, it’s been confirmed that Solomon Reed, the New United States FIA agent, will be played by Idris Elba. He will be an essential character in the story of Phantom Liberty, as together we embark on an impossible mission of espionage and survival.
CDPR hasn’t shown much of the add-on (which means you’ll need the base game to play Phantom Liberty), but at least the studio has given a release window. Phantom Liberty is scheduled for release during 2023, and anyone looking for it on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One (or their mid-generation updates) should not. The DLC (and, of course, Cyberpunk 2077: Game of the Year Edition, which we recently wrote about) will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store).
We dread how Cyberpunk 2077 would have been received if it had been released in late 2021, leaving the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One behind. CDPR’s priorities have changed, so there will be no multiplayer spinoff. Maybe it’s for the best.
