[TGA 2022] Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC announcement – But There’s Bad News Too! [VIDEO]

Developer Guerrilla Games announced in a trailer at The Game Awards that Horizon Forbidden West is officially getting DLC – but there’s also some bad news for those still playing with previous-generation PS4 consoles: unlike the base game, the PS4 version is only coming to PlayStation 5!

Coming on April 19, 2023, the Burning Shores DLC will take Aloy to Los Angeles, where the Hollywood sign will be visible (and promptly destroyed by a giant robot). According to a post on the PlayStation blog, Guerrilla explained that “in order to realize this grand vision both technically and creatively, we made the difficult decision to focus all our efforts on creating an incredible experience exclusively for the PlayStation®5 console.”

According to the post, the Burning Shores DLC will have Aloy chasing a “sinister threat” and the Los Angeles region has been transformed into a volcanic archipelago. “You’ll travel to a dangerous new region south of Clan Tenakth’s lands, where an engaging story picks up where Horizon Forbidden West left off, with new characters, adventures and more.”

The Forbidden West is the long-awaited sequel to 2017’s Horizon: Zero Dawn and saw the return of protagonist Alloy as she explores, well, the Forbidden West, which includes rundown versions of cities like Las Vegas and San Francisco.

The sequel, which will be released in February 2022, will follow in the footsteps of the original and receive a significant extension, as The Frozen Wilds DLC was released for Zero Dawn in November 2017.

While Forbidden West has received plenty of early updates to fix various technical issues and quality-of-life features, as well as a New Game Plus mode later this year, this will be the first major DLC pack to arrive for the game since launch.
