PS Plus Premium: Classic PSP & PS3 Games To Be Added!

Sony is updating the range of classic games available through PS Plus Premium, adding two new PSP and one PS3 game.

Sony has announced the new games coming to the Premium tier of the PlayStation Plus subscription service in December 2022. The company will announce new games for PS Plus Premium, the more expensive service tier, around the middle of each month. December 2022 will be no exception.

Since Sony revamped its PlayStation Plus service to three separate tiers, a pattern has emerged for announcing new PS Plus Premium games.

Typically, Sony unveils games in the middle of the month, and then they become available the following week, although there have been exceptions to the rule. In this case, they seem to be sticking to the tried and tested pattern, with newly announced games available from Tuesday, 20 December.

As for the new PS Plus Premium games for December 2022, subscribers will be able to check out two PSP games, one PS1 game and one PS3 game. The PSP games are Ridge Racer 2 and Pinball Heroes, while the PS3 game is Heavenly Sword. The new PlayStation 1 game is Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus. PS1 and PSP games have been updated to include improved visuals, rewind, quick save and custom video filters. It is unclear whether or not there will be trophy support. Some Premium classic games included trophies, but the feature is not universal.

New PS Plus Premium games for December 2022:

  • Heavenly Sword (PS3)
  • Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus (PS1)
  • Pinball Heroes (PSP)
  • Ridge Racer 2 (PSP)

It’s safe to say that many will be pleased with the December 2022 line-up. The PSP version of Ridge Racer 2 was never released in the US. So this is probably the first time many gamers have had the opportunity to play it. Pinball Heroes may not be causing much excitement, but PS Plus Premium subscribers will be glad to see PSP games added to the service at all.

The PS3 game that is likely to generate the most interest is Heavenly Sword.

Initially released in 2007, Heavenly Sword is generally regarded as one of the most underrated classic PS3 games.

The game has been praised for its story and gameplay. The only major criticism was its brevity. However, players will have less to worry about the game’s length by being playable via PS Plus and not having to purchase the game at a total price. It may be better received than when it was released as a full-price game.

Finally, Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus is a great new addition to the range. However, it’s worth adding that its reimagined version, Oddworld: Soulstorm, was one of the free PS Plus games of the month last year.
