Wednesday: Gwendoline Christie “Blushed” During Her First Meeting With Tim Burton

MOVIE NEWS – Gwendoline Christie, who plays Principal Weems in Wednesday, was almost speechless when she first spoke to Tim Burton about the role.

Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie has revealed she had a pretty strong feeling when she first met executive producer and director Tim Burton about starring in Netflix’s new hit series Wednesday. The series is already so popular that Christie, as one of the many, seems to be an indispensable part of the cast. But he wasn’t necessarily so confident in the beginning.

In a recent interview, Christie talked about her role in the Addams Family spinoff series and her experience on the show. It turns out that not only was she given satisfying creative freedom playing Principal Larissa Weems, but she was almost speechless when Burton first approached her about joining the cast of the Netflix series. Being a fan of his work, he was surprised to learn that the feeling was mutual.

Speaking to WWD, Christie revealed how shocked she was when she first learned that Burton was in the running for the new Addams Family project. It started with a text message and things escalated from there. “Tim Burton wants to talk to you about his latest project. It’s The Addams Family,” he recalled the initial text. “And indeed, I stopped and was silent. I’m pretty sure I was shocked. Then, by some mysterious force, I reassembled myself into something that at least partially resembled a human being, and I just had to put the phone down and carry on. I didn’t say anything for a while. nothing, because I simply had to process it.”

That feeling became even more intense when she finally got on the phone with Burton for the first time, and it turned out that the Batman 1989 director was as big a fan as she was of him. This resulted in a funny mutual shyness during the meeting. “At the end [of the call] I was really red in the face and I said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m so embarrassed and passed out. ‘Oh my God, I’d rather hide under the table,'” Christie added.

It seems that after playing a fierce swordsman in Game of Thrones, Wednesday was a nice change of pace for Christie, and the series’ success came as a wonderful surprise. “It’s just unbelievable,” he raved about the positive response to Wednesday and his character. “I think the most beautiful thing about it is that it seems to have made so many people happy. It’s been watched by so many different ages and different people are watching it together. And that’s a beautiful thing. The magnitude of the reaction was completely unexpected and I’m just grateful full of all the participants who work so hard and everyone who watches and enjoys it. I really feel that way. It’s very special.”
