Ed Boon Reveals Who He Wants To See As Guest Fighter In The Next Mortal Kombat!

Ed Boon, director and creator of the Mortal Kombat games, has revealed which guest fighter he would most like to see in the next episode.

Mortal Kombat creator and NetherRealm Studios head Ed Boon has revealed which guest fighter he would most like to see in a future game in the series. Mortal Kombat 11 was released in 2019, and while many people are still playing it today, others eagerly await the release of the new instalment in the long-running franchise. NetherRealm is working on some mysterious new project, and while it might be something else, rumours have it that the studio’s next game is none other than Mortal Kombat 12.

Ed Boon previously took to Twitter to narrow NetherRealm’s next game down to two options – Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3.

As spotted by Comic Book, Ed Boon recently responded to a fan on Twitter. The person asked him what kind of guest fighter he dreams of for a Mortal Kombat game. According to Boon, his dream Mortal Kombat guest fighter would be Ryu, the main character from Capcom’s Street Fighter fighting game series.

Ryu is one of the most iconic video game characters of all time. Perhaps it’s no exaggeration to say he is one of the most recognisable fighting game characters. Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are probably the two greatest fighting game franchises of all time. It makes sense that Boon would want to pit Ryu against the likes of Scorpion in a new Mortal Kombat game. The Street Fighter franchise has faced other fighting game franchises in the past. But even so, it seems highly unlikely that Ryu will ever appear in a Mortal Kombat game.

If Ryu were to appear in a Mortal Kombat game, it would mean that he would be willing to be dismembered, dissected and brutally beaten into the ground in a graphically brutal manner.

Street Fighter games don’t shy away from violence. However, they approach it in a much more stylised way. It seems unlikely that Capcom would be willing to lend Ryu to Mortal Kombat. This is because excessive graphic violence could potentially damage the image of the Street Fighter brand.

Capcom is not opposed to Ryu appearing in other video games. In fact, Ryu is also on the Super Smash Bros. character roster. Despite this, fans should not hold their breath waiting for Ryu to appear in Mortal Kombat.
