Not every feature of the PlayStation 5 has been improved over the PlayStation 4, which we recently reported is now at over 30 million sales.
It’s been over two years since the PlayStation 5 Standard Edition and the cheaper, optical drive-omitting PlayStation 5 Digital Edition were released. Since then, you’ve had to pay more for both consoles (because of the price hikes almost everywhere outside the US…). Since then, the console still has a shortcoming: it lacks dynamic themes, which were a pleasant, comfortable sight on both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro (for example, the one embedded below for NieR: Automata), and when coupled with good background music, it was a joy to use the console as such.
We would have thought Sony would have been slow to compensate for it. However, the customization option for the user interface is still not available on PlayStation 5, and users of the console (who may fear that using it upright could cause damage due to the flawed design of the liquid metal cooling solution; we wrote about it this week) can find it on Reddit are still holding out hope that dynamic themes might finally be coming to PS5. The company is known for being unpredictable with features.
One of the most popular themes on Reddit is asking for themes or the ability to use custom backgrounds. Some people miss a cherry blossom theme with a realistic day and season change theme that shows users how the tree grew throughout the year, blossomed, and then lost its leaves. According to the commenter, no background from any game will bring them back the same peace.
That’s a good point because it could be argued that the PlayStation 5’s performance is far superior to its predecessor, but you could expect more from it. For example, LOCAL PlayStation 3 emulation because PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers currently have to run PS3 games from the cloud.
