Street Fighter 6: WWE’s Zelina Vega Has Been Appointed as the Game’s “Commentator”

WWE pancrat Zelina Vega will appear as Juri during Saturday’s Royale Rumble as she has been confirmed as a commentator for Street Fighter 6.

Capcom has announced that the next commentator option for Street Fighter 6 will be WWE pancrat Zelina Vega, whose real name is Thea Trinidad. Street Fighter 6 allows players to select their own match commentators, all of which will be available as DLC. This includes professional Street Fighter esports players, well-known tournament commentators, and even content creators. So is Zelina Vega, who is a longtime Street Fighter fan and is happy to be a part of Street Fighter 6.

Zelina Vega has been working in WWE since 2017, when she debuted in NXT as the manager of pancrat Andrade. He then moved up to the main roster in 2018, bouncing between RAW and Smackdown, feuding with many of WWE’s biggest stars. But what Vega is perhaps best known for is his conflict with WWE over ownership of his Twitch stream. Vega used to be a frequent streamer, but WWE heavily censored the contract workers’ other work, but he was prevented from continuing. Yet Vega is known for being a gamer and a fan.

Vega also showed his love for the game during Saturday’s WWE Royale Rumble. Vega participated in the Women’s Royale Rumble and was the 21st entrant in the match. He did so in full Yuri costume, wearing the outfit of the Street Fighter 6 fighting game character. At first, viewers thought it was just a funny costume from Vega, but it soon turned out to be part of an official sponsorship.

Not only has WWE teamed up with Capcom to promote Street Fighter 6, but Vega himself is partnering with Capcom to be a commentator for Street Fighter 6. Interestingly, these two things seem to be separate. Vega is doing commentary work for Street Fighter 6 under her real name, Thea Trinidad, indicating that WWE is not officially involved with or sanctioning the product.

The fact that WWE promoted Vega’s Street Fighter 6 outfit during the Royale Rumble, and the Street Fighter 6 ad probably supported Vega at the very least. WWE has gone through a major change in leadership over the past year, and the company has become more lenient about work outside of the wrestling promotion. In any case, Vega seems to be taking advantage of the opportunity.

Zelina Vega will be available as a color commentator for Street Fighter 6. It’s not yet clear if it will be usable at launch, but WWE fans should be happy about it. Maybe other pancrators, either WWE or AEW, or maybe some Japanese promotions like NJPW will also lend their voices to Street Fighter 6.

Street Fighter 6 releases on June 2nd for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
