MOVIE NEWS – Based on a short story from The Boogeyman King’s collection of short stories, Night Shift, this is a chance to wonder what lurks in the closet.
The first trailer for the new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Boogeyman has arrived. The trailer gives us a glimpse into the latest King work to hit the big screen. Based on the novella of the same name from King’s short story collection Night Shift, the film adapts the story’s basic premise but takes it in a different direction.
The Boogeyman was initially intended to be straight to streaming services, but thanks to impressive test screenings, the horror film has been optioned for a theatrical release on June 2, 2023.
The film will then be released on Hulu in the US and internationally on Disney+ at a later date. The trailer can be found at the end of this article.
The movie has been a long time coming. It was initially released in 2018 but has been delayed several times, not least due to the COVID epidemic. Moreover, the film was a project of 20th Century Fox. It was one of those that were put on hold until the merger with Disney was completed. Considering how well the test screenings went, it seems that the film’s return to production can only bode well for horror fans, who saw a great year of scares in 2022 and are looking forward to more in 2023.
The Boogeyman will hopefully bring the usual high King standards to cinemas. It will probably join the current string of successful horror films that have been making decent box office returns recently. Judging by the trailer, it looks like the film will be another entry in the ‘kids in peril’ sub-genre. The film will be released in cinemas on June 2 2023.
