A recent trailer for Like a Dragon: Ishin introduces players to the story and revenge of Ryoma Sakamoto, the samurai of the Tosa clan.
A new trailer has been released for Like a Dragon: Ishin. The fresh trailer introduces fans to the story of the Yakuza spinoff. It introduces players to the main character Ryoma Sakamoto and his journey to avenge his master. The game was first revealed by Sega last September. It has been confirmed that it will be a complete remake of the spinoff, initially released in 2014.
In the months leading up to the release of Like A Dragon: Ishin, several vital revelations were made about the spinoff.
Sega has confirmed that several popular mini-games will return in Ishin, including card games, chicken race betting, and even the karaoke mini-game, with a new take on the series staple “Baka Mitai”.
Ishin also includes new elements set in Bakumatsu-era Japan. For example, there will be farming and cooking mini-games. With less than a month to go until the game’s release, Sega is excited for players to learn more about the story behind Ishin.
A new trailer released Monday morning introduces players to Ishin’s main character, Ryoma Sakamoto. Sakamoto serves as a samurai of the Tosa clan. After his mentor is assassinated by a mysterious assassin, Ryoma joins the Shinsengumi to track down his master’s killer and avenge the murder. The game will also feature “look-alikes” of several fan-favourite characters, including Goro Majima and Haruka Sawamura, among others. The spinoff will also retain the same voice acting as the modern-day counterparts of these characters.
Ishin presents the world of Like a Dragon in a very different setting from previous games in the franchise. The modern setting of the main series is replaced by Japan in the end days of the samurai era.
The gameplay represents many of the same changes, with mini-games replacing arcades of other games with traditional card games such as Koi-Koi and poker.
Ishin also retains the “card-based combat system” of the original version with the remakes.
Last year’s announcement of the game was accompanied by two other important revelations about the future of the Like a Dragon franchise. Gaiden was revealed to be another spinoff, set for release in 2023, following Kiryu’s adventures during the events of Yakuza. Sega also announced the next central part of the franchise, Episode 8, which has a planned release date of 2024. Fans of the series will have plenty to look forward to over the next year, with several spinoffs and a main series game coming.
